San Francisco Will Become The First US City Devoid Of e-Cigarettes
San Francisco is the first city of the US city that has announced to not only ban the e-cigarettes’ sales, but also the production and distribution of these vaping products within the city premises. Based on the preliminary voting results, city administrators collectively decided to approve the e-cigarette ban. However, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has yet to investigate it. It hasn’t officially revealed about accession and the firms can apply for evaluation of their products until 2021, according to the guidelines drafted by the agency.\
The well-known e-cigarette brand, Juul, could have to face huge issues if the ban is approved. The headquarters of the e-cigarette manufacturer is in the city’s prime location, and it has engaged in strong conflicts with officials. Around three months back, City Attorney Dennis Herrera asked the firm to justify the reason for holding tobacco distributor license, if it has decided to ban tobacco-based products on the premises. The firm would still be able to direct its headquarters in the city premises if the FDA approves the ban on e-cigarettes. However, Juul has recently announced that it would still expand the headquarters into a corporate office.
On a similar note, CVS Health—an American retail pharmacy—has announced that it will assign a contribution of $10 Million in order to combat the use of e-cigarettes among the youth generation. The retail pharma stores chain has been making efforts from the last four years to eradicate e-cigarettes across the US.
Since 2014, the company has assigned $40 Million out of its planned commitment to spend $50 Million on influencing the use of anti-tobacco products and preventing the use of vaping items. The company’s retail stores decided to discontinue sales of tobacco products.
The funds, which deliver from CVS and its other sources in this year, will help supporting strategies to cutdown e-cigarettes sales and stop youth from smoking.
