Google Purchases Startup To Propel Assistant’s Answering Capabilities
Google announced that it purchased a start-up called Superpod. Reportedly, this firm was involved in creating an app that allowed users to post questions as well as get answers from experts quickly. The latest move by Google is supposed to assist boost its Assistant’s capability to precisely answer users’ questions.
As per the report in Axios this week, Google paid almost $60 Million to acqui-hire the founders and buy various assets from Superpod. Later, Google as well approved the latest acquirement. However, it refused to reveal the financial details about the same. Last year, Superpod had closed its Q&A app. Superpod founders wrote in a message that the firm cannot disclose any information at present. However, it is trekking onwards toward the same North Star and is very excited about the prospect. Google is continuously working to advance its Assistant’s abilities to employ comparable voice-based services such as Amazon Alexa.
On a similar note, in recent times, smart speakers, such as Google Assistant-packing Google Home and Alexa-powered Amazon Echo, are commanding many TV brands such as Sony, LG, and Vizio. Recently, at CES, Samsung announced that it is now opening its own smart TV system to the two largest names in home voice control.
With the recent update, all 2019 televisions from Samsung will be able to act in response to the voice commands released via smart speakers Google Assistant and Alexa. Examples of these commands include volume, power on/off, app launching, and channel selection. “Alexa, turn on the TV” or “Hey Google, launch Netflix” are supposed to produce outcomes with Samsung’s 2019 TVs. Along with the hands-free voice command using external speakers, numerous TV makers present in-built voice assistants as well. To avail this facility, one has to press a button and talk into the remote.
