NIH To Fund $20 Million To Search Substitutes To Fetal Tissue For Research
The NIH (National Institutes of Health) wants to contribute up to $20 Million worth of investigation into substitutes for using human fetal tissue to analyze disease, the agency declared recently. The announcement is mainly preliminary. The formal funding prospect announcements will be revealed soon, the agency said, and researchers cannot yet present proposals to be subsidized. The total amount of money obtainable has not been confirmed, as per the announcement, but the agency is “planning” in investing $20 Million in the course of 2 Years.
The announcement comes following the news reports that in September stated that the Trump management ordered NIH investigators—counting one team studying a treatment for HIV—to stop purchasing novel human fetal tissue. Researchers on that panel were utilizing the fetal tissue to produce mice with an immune system alike human so they could analyze the disease. For months, the Trump government has been investigating the use of human fetal tissue—coming from abortions—in funded research by the federal. Already this fall, the U.S. HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) started an audit to find how human fetal tissue was utilized in government studies, the FDA canceled an agreement with a fetal tissue provider and NIH scientists were asked to put a stop on new orders.
On a similar note, recently, the NIH was in news as the institutes are carrying MRI of children brains while they are on Instagram to study the consequences of screen time. The issue of kids and screen time has been subjected to argue for many years. And while there is a plethora of scientific and anecdotal proof to suggest that parents restrict their kids’ screen time, the NIH has assumed a landmark screen time study. The $300 Million study includes 11,000 children at 21 trial sites in the country to review how screen time—which comprises mobile video games and phone apps—influences their mental health and brain development, according to a latest 60 Minutes report.
